Alex Beanie, A Crochet Beanie Pattern For All
I love beanies and the Alex Beanie is my new favorite! When I was designing it, I really wanted it to be available for everyone to wear and in all sizes. It works up so fast, that I actually made about 5 of the beanies! I gave a pink one to my daughter and a dark gray one to my husband and said, “go stand outside so I can take a picture of Daddy and Me”!
What You Need
To make the Alex Beanie, you will need to gather a few materials:
- #3 Light weight or DK weight yarn of your choice
- 4mm crochet hook
- Stitch Markers
- Scissors
- Yarn Needle (large eye blunt needle for sewing in ends)
Pattern Notes
This pattern is worked bottom up but instead of working the band in flat rows first, you’ll immediately start working in the round after a foundation row that is then joined. I make use of the Camel Stitch (3rd loop hdc stitch) to separate sections of the beanie. The stitch pattern between Camel rounds looks like it could be “too lacy” but it really isn’t. Once you get it done and put it on, you will see that it is quite warm!
The top of the beanie returns to that texture used to make the band. This beanie just looks so great and is what is usually called a “skull cap” beanie–meaning it sits snug on the head vs being a little taller or slouchy. It looks great with or without a pom pom!
